Blogpost 5: Harms of Extreme Capitalism

(c)gajitz
As we all know since we were in high school, we studied about economics and in economics we learned about capitalism which is an economic system where trades and industries are controlled by private owners. And through looking at some articles about Wall-E, I've read about articles which tackled about politics and ideologies and a topic about Capitalism caught my eye.

Moving on, according to an Article by Mande Wilkes entitled "WALL-E: SLAYING CORPORATIONS OR SAVING CAPITALISM?" from ftisnews.com says that Buy N Large which is the biggest private comany ruined the world by making the people experience and encouraging to consumerism which is consuming big amount of food, materials and abusing the technology, since they are the largest company there they have enough money to build the Axiom and encourage people to move to Axiom which later on the Earth has been forgotten about the people who stayed in Axiom including the recent captain.

As the Article says, "Directed to 'consume, consume, consume' by B & L, humans are corpulent slobs confined to floating robotic chairs, mindlessly relying on automation and these 'flying La-Z-boys' to meet their every desire." which is true because the Buy N Large corporation did ruin the lives of people including the government as well.

Therefore, because of Buy N Large corporation's capitalist entrepreneurship by being the number 1 company in the world, it became so powerful that it created a life in space that the government couldn't do anything because of Buy N Large corporation's wealth.

Moving on, another article by J.A Carizo entitled "Wall-E and the Dangers of Capitalism" from biklish.com says that all the property is owned by a single company which makes the Buy N Large corporation showing kind of capitalist entrepreneurship because it controlled people by giving them their satisfactions and desires without experiencing any hard times

Moving on, as the article says "Capitalism and consumerism has a price. And this becomes worst when coupled with greed. And if uncurtailed, the price may include the earth." which is true because too much capitalism without the control of it has a lot of consequences.

Hence, if capitalism continues not only the people will suffer and will face the consequences but also the place which is the Earth because people and the Earth have intimate connection and if capitalism continues the government might not control it anymore.

Blogpost 4: It's not fattism after all.

(c)whatthefrench

As we all know, The Wall-E movie showed a consumerism type of culture, and by consumerism which means and ever-increasing consumption of goods, materials, and services. So while I was looking for a great article, I saw an article consisting a bad message that the Wall-E movie showed which destroyed the image of fat people and I've seen and read articles about clearing the misconception they've seen. And I'm going to share to you what I've read and what I think about it.

Moving on, according to an article from Tim Shipman entitled "WALL-E's 'fattist' satire angers fat pride groups from telegraph.co.uk it says that many fat people were mad because of the fattism practice and fattism treatment which means discrimination against fat people was shown like how weak and useless fat people were in the film.

As the article says, "WALL-E has garnered rave reviews for its satire on consumer culture, in which future humans are depicted as a group of obese gluttons who never leave their padded floating arm chairs." Well, as the author says, it's not fattism that was shown in the film but the effect of consumerism, and I totally agreed with that because without the practice of consumerism people wouldn't be like that, the Earth wouldn't be like that and there wouldn't be a problem without the practice of consumerism.

Therefore, fattism wasn't shown after all, the effect of lazy logic and consumerism which people in the Axiom don't have to worry about job, about food, and about education because technology will take their responsibility were shown and by those effect, they caused the people to be obese which is the fault of mankind's practice.

Moving on, another article from Daniel Engber entitled "The new Pixar movie goes out of its way to equate obesity with environmental collapse." from slate.com it says that it's the Buy N Large megacorporation's fault why this happened, the megacorporation made the people practice consumerism which destroyed the Earth and after they'll be sent to the space while cleaning the Earth which shows how selfish Buy N Large is.

As the article says, "Once onboard, their self-destructive tendencies only get worse: After 700 years adrift, humans have grown too bloated to walk and too lazy to think." that was the plan of the Buy N Large not thinking about what would be the consequences, it's not fat people's fault because they were ignorant for 700 years, it was the first batch's fault because they have the idea and the chance to stop Buy N Large. In the last part of the movie, we saw how the current Captain amazed of what he saw about Earth since he was ignorant and doesn't even know that Earth existed.

In summation, it's not the fattism that was shown but the equality because after that the Captain made a move to let the overweight people to make a move to and go back to earth, the humanity came back, and fattism didn't matter there because in the last scene overweight people stood up as well as the Captain and everyone of them had their part to help.

Blogpost 3: Dystopia

(c)tinypic

Basically, at first, I didn't know what dystopia is until someone mentioned it to me and googled it and when I saw the meaning and looked for images the first thing that came to my mind is what happened to the earth at Wall-E movie. As you can see, dystopia is the opposite of utopia. Dystopia was "utopia" gone wrong. It's basically a creepy, unpleasant, filthy, dangerous and abandoned world, society, state or community.

Moving on, according to an article from Huy Nguyen entitled "WALL-E: For All Ages, For the Ages" from cinemablography.org it says that technology can be a friend or a foe, a foe because too much dependence to technology can lead to a dystopian world or state like what we see in Wall-E. You see, the only purpose of transferring humans to the Axiom temporarily is to clean the earth and return there immediately, but the humans became so dependent to the Axiom where they don't have to attend work, they have an educational system, and the food are free, basically, they are living an ideal environment.

(c)nal2114429's blog
As the article says, "However, an over-reliance on technology could lead to a dystopian society like the one depicted in WALL-E, where humans essentially turn into robots while robots like WALL-E and EVE actually have more humanistic qualities than the humans themselves."  which is true because in the end it turned that when Auto saw the plant he wanted to have it, either destroy or throw it, he wanted humans to stay forever in the Axiom. Wall-E and EVE made a decision to save the earth which is more like humans for showing care for the earth while the humans at the Axiom became robots, slaves by their own desires while the earth suffers.

In summation, the benefits of the Axiom society by far outweigh the consequences. While the Axiom became Utopia, the Earth which is the original or where the human-beings belong became a Dystopian world.

Moving on, according to another article from Katalina Watt entitled  "Studies in Dystopia: WALL-E" from seenthefuture's blog it says that Axiom being a Utopian world for humans made them forget about what's happening to earth, they just have to stay to Axiom temporarily and because they don't even have to walk or cook something to eat, not to worry about their jobs, they became lazy and unable to walk properly because basically they became the slaves of too much reliance to technology.

As the article says, "When EVE returns the plant to the Captain, he learns the Axiom is supposed to leap straight back to Earth to let humanity settle back there, because life can be cultivated again." it's the proof for the humans in Axiom to stay there temporarily but the past officials made a decision to just stay there because they were blinded by the benefits of technology without even peeking at the consequences it could lead.

Therefore, Axiom became a Utopian world because everything was free, ideal environment for lazy people or for people who was blinded or for people who took the advantage of technology, a Utopian world where everybody wanted to move for its nearly perfect qualities but then the consequence of this is the destruction of the Earth or the transformation of the Earth to be a Dystopian world.

Blogpost 2: Ecofeminism to Eco-cyberfeminism

When people hear the words "Disney Movies" I think the first thing that come to people's minds is about Disney Princesses and how weak they are for waiting their Prince Charming to save them, a very common damsel in distress theme. So maybe this is the reason why I find Wall-E special and unique among other Disney Movies. It shows equality for each genders. If you want to know why, I will show you though my research so keep reading.

(c)Femtechnet
Moving on, according to Cassandra A. Clarke entitled "Love in the Time of Pollution: A Look at Eco-Feminism Roots in Disney's 'Wall-E'" from studentpulse.com says that it is amazing how a tragedy changed the criticism and the unequal treatment for every gender. How men view women unequally had been set aside from this movie since the target viewers for this movie are kids, they will learn to not discriminate or to not have a discrimination when it comes to gender.

As the article says, "Traditionally founded in Marxist thought, they believe that nature is dominated because humans dominate each other through the value they place in “dualisms,”-slave/master, women/man, child/father, etc., and the organization of hierarchical structures of power (205). Structuring their environmental thought within a homocentric outlook, eco-social feminists believe that it is through reestablishing the connection between people in considerate terms that nature can once again be valued." It truly moved me because after reading that I realized that the movie's intention was not only how to take care of the environment and the reason why it should be taken care of.

Therefore, if the people took the earth for granted what happened to the earth at the movie's perspective would happen but also the intention of applying or establishing the connection between every genders, by treating or giving them enough and equal treatment, that everyone can make a difference.

Moving on, another article from Kristen Cervantes entitled "MOVIE GEARED TOWARD FEMINISM: WALL-E" from newsonwomen.wordpress.com it showed how emotional connections can re-establish and restore the quality and relevance of life. They needed each other when both of them discovered that there is still a chance to live on Earth despite how it looked like before, so when people saw them and found out what their goal is, they helped them by standing out and defeating Auto which totally showed that eco-feminism existed, but since they are both robots and man-made, I called it eco-cyberfeminism wherein it is related because number one, Eve is a robot hence I called it cyber, number two she she helped her programmer to search for the plant and report it to the Captain and sacrificed her life to defeat Auto which showed care for the earth, and lastly Eve's voice actress is a woman, and since Wall-E fell in love with her, everyone looked at her as a woman.

(c)blogs.westword
As the article says, "Women are typically stereotyped as being only sweet, loving and caring, but men can be that way too. Overall, the movie demonstrates how people can benefit the environment and how genders should not be stereotyped." Since they are both robots and man-made, I called it eco-cyberfeminism wherein it is related because number one, Eve is a robot hence I called it cyber, number two she helped her programmer to search for the plant and report it to the Captain and sacrificed her life to defeat Auto which showed care for the earth, and lastly Eve's voice actress is a woman, and since Wall-E fell in love with her, everyone looked at her as a woman.

Hence, in this movie, the writer's intention is not to show an environmental message but it somehow showed that the cause of the destruction of the earth was because of people's ignorance and continuing to aim for the product of future without even considering the consequences, plus discrimination will not help the earth which is shown when people saw each other on the screen and started realizing things and started the movement to make everything back to the way it had and it used to be.

Blogpost 1: The Futuristic Mythology

I believe we're all familiar with Wall-E, I've seen it for like 23 times and I still love it. I'm still hoping for the second movie. Some people might say that I'm immature for watching films like this but if we're going to look at the clearer side, there's a lot of meaning, hidden meaning. If you keep on watching and watching a film there's a tendency that we're going to fall in love with it even more because for every time we watch it we understand it more.

So while I was scrolling and looking for a great article to read, the titles themselves caught my attention so I decided to read them. I've discovered another hidden messages about one of my favorite childhood movies.

(c)Deviantart

Moving on, according to an article from Ambi Advaita entitled
Wall-E movie interpretation & hidden meaning from movieinsights.com says that there are different perspectives and in the Human's perspective the Axiom which is the spaceship where the people lives and built to keep the humanity safe  while the Earth was being reconstructed, cleaned and renewed is said to be the heaven, so here we can say that the metaphor for the heaven is the Axiom. That's the first thing that I've discovered.

As the punishment for getting the plant, the article says that the "Struggle and eventual rebirth / ascension back to heavens - Adam (Wall E) and Eve have to go through a lot on earth (axiom) and after a lot of struggle they finally ascend back  to heavens (earth)." So as we can see, it really happened at the last part where they became successful about returning or sending back the humans from the Axiom to the New Earth which was already renewed, and reconstructed. Therefore it also shows how the past happened again to the future.

(c)Deviantart

Moving on, I agreed to the article by  Peter T. Chattaway entitled  WALL-E — a second Adam looking for his Eve? from patheos.com says that Wall-E represents as Adam and Eve represents as Eve as the "people" responsible for populating the New Earth and the plant as the metaphor for the forbidden fruit and when Eve was in search for the plant. To quote what hey says "He then finds the last remaining space liner containing the ‘lost tribe’ of humans." Which basically means that Wall-E was in search of someone to hold on like what he sees or watch in the films that he plays at the old television he got from the mountains and piles of trash, he wanted someone to hold his hand like what he sees in the movie so when he finally saw Eve, he felt that he wasn't all alone and that's what happened to Adam and Eve, for Adam not to be alone, Eve came.

As what I've watched I think when Wall-E found Eve he was happy because he wasn't alone since Axiom(heaven) sent Eve to the New Earth, when they saw each other, Wall-E showed the plant to her and he was convinced to give it to her but then Wall-E came with her.

Therefore after their mission to Axiom, Eve and Wall-E as the responsible for populating the New Earth became successful by sending the people back to the New Earth and that's what they meant about populating since Eve the childbearer of the New Earth, so basically her artificial robotic womb puts her action and Wall-E's action to send back the humans to the New Earth.
